-
Are there age minimums? There is no age minimum or limit (lol). We all started enjoying the water at an incredibly early age too and hope to continue to do so into our later years. Our experience is to make sure the children are ok with the snorkel gear if snorkeling is the destination. Supervision of minors is always required, but overall, the cruise and sandbar are extremely exciting times for your young passengers to get acquainted with our marine life and its beauty. We make every effort to accommodate your group and keep everyone safe. All boating, swimming, wading, paddling, and water activities are physical activities and require adult supervision for all minors. The younger the children the more supervision will be required from you. Getting in and out of the water onto the boat also requires the use of a ladder. We do have a non-slip surface on the deck and will require a life jacket to always be worn by all minors under 12 years old while the boat is underway.

Are pets allowed?Pets are not allowed. Service animals are allowed.

-
What is your bad weather policy?Great question. Prior to departure, the captain will assess weather conditions for safety and destinations. If it is determined that we must not depart due to weather conditions, and you are not able to reschedule for any reason you will be issued a 100% refund. Safety first! Extended forecasts in South Florida tend to differ from the weather conditions the day of departure, therefore the captain will assess the conditions 60 minutes prior to departure with accurate and active weather conditions for the day. We want you to be safe and happy!
-
What is the water temperature? Our waters are warm, and wetsuits are not required, although some snorkelers enjoy flashing their awesome wetsuits. In the winter months, Florida waters range lower into the 70’s (Fahrenheit).
-
I’m not sure if I will get seasick, should I be worried? We typically travel calm waters; however, it is recommended you are well rested and stay hydrated. Avoid over drinking the night before and consider over the counter motion sickness prevention wristband or patches. Although it is rare to experience this in our reach of water, we encourage you to take precaution.
-
What can I expect my first time snorkeling? If snorkeling is your choice, our captain will go over with you the options for the day based on safety and water conditions. By far, the Peanut Island snorkel trails are one of the best snorkeling spots in South Florida. We typically go out to a variety of breakwaters, artificial reefs and snorkel trails full of tropical reef fish such as sea turtles, starfish, lobster, blue crabs, conch, baby octopus angelfish, and more! Utterly AMAZING.
-
Where do we go snorkeling?Your captain will outline the options based on the weather, water conditions, and your preferences and together you all will decide your the best location for you that day.
-
What is proper attire for snorkeling and the sandbar?Typical swim wear along with reef-safe sunscreen protection should do it. Some of our snorkelers also use long-sleeve sun shirts to protect themselves from too much sun exposure. We typically have sunscreen provided should you forget. Your beachwear should suffice.
-
How hard is it to snorkel?Swimming for snorkeling is a prerequisite. With your mask and snorkel on, float on your stomach, keep your face in the water and breathe through your snorkel through your mouth. Snorkels are universally made and feel different to everyone. Facial hair may cause the mask to leak, we recommend either shaving your facial hair prior to your trip or bringing Vaseline on your excursion. Pool noodles are provided as well for your convenience and comfort.
-
How deep is the water we will snorkel? The depth we usually find ourselves at these reefs are wading depth (0 feet) to 20 feet. The sandbar is 5 feet or less. You will love it!
-
I’m not a good swimmer; can I bring a life jacket to help me?Absolutely, however please remember that swimming for snorkeling is a prerequisite. All snorkelers are provided a USCG-approved life jacket that is designed to lift your chin out of the water, so if you would prefer to wear a life jacket while snorkeling, we recommend bringing your own. Let the Captain know if you are unable to swim, so that he may take your group to a location that will allow you to see the tropical reef fish from a wading area.
-
What is a snorkel steward?Give back to the ocean by taking care of it also. Do not touch corals, fish, or turtles. The only thing you can touch safely is sand and rock and water (that means with your fins also).
-
What is snorkeling etiquette?Snorkeling etiquette is a simple set of rules you follow to avoid harming sea life, yourself, and equipment in the process. Really this is amazingly easy to do. Do not bang into coral with your fins or stand on it. If you become aware of how beautiful the underwater world is, you will naturally want to do no harm when you are snorkeling.
-
Can I touch the coral?Coral is beautiful, and looks like rock, but it is a fragile living animal. Really, we have seen a video of a coral polyp eating a fish! And when you touch coral with your fins or hands, you disrupt the protective mucous layer that contains their microbiome, like the one in a human’s gut. Removing any part of or causing damage to this mucous layer can negatively affect the health of the coral.
-
Sandbar, what is that? The Peanut Island sandbar is a shallow stretch of beautiful white sand, in between the waterways of Phil Foster Park and the Port of Palm Beach. Beaching at the sandbar can be calm and relaxing, or busy and exciting depending on the day and the crowd. We find the morning and weekday sessions are more relaxing, the weekend afternoons are a little more crowded. On holidays weekends the sandbar gets extremely exciting, and more boats tend to gather and create a party life atmosphere.
-
Why do we go to the sandbar? The Peanut Island sandbar is an extremely popular place for boats to anchor and where goers can swim and relax in the water. With Salty Family Charters, your captain will tend to you and your group personally and provide light refreshments for you
